I apologise for some short blog posts. You might recognise these boys as they were part of another family session a while ago. For this session they were the focus and they were super cute! I finalised your proofbook and shipped it out to your uk address, hopefully you will have it soon.
Here is a cute one of the baby of the house

Hi there everyone. The blog has been quiet, because I have not been quiet, in fact quite busy. Within the next few days there will be video sneak peeks of a mother and daughter and two families. For now I am trying my level best to catch up with older orders as well. I received a multitude at the same time when we went over to new pricing and procedures so the to do list is worked down one thing at a time.
I realised its been some time since I shared some general ramblings and thought its about time. I always have, but specifically the last few weeks I have really tried to keep a lookout for times to take pictures of my own two darlings. One day when I have time maybe over my really long vacation in July/August I would love to be able to sort through my whole arsenal of pictures of them and make a massive video slideshow but to be able to do that I have to make sure every month of their live’s are in fact recorded. There has been too many months where I didn’t even take one image of them and I vow that will not be the case forward.
Since I have really started to love studio work more and more and also because I am a great big sissie and dont like to be outside when its too outragiously hot, and my girls would rather be playing in the times its not too outrageously hot, I have just tried to keep an eye out for times where a quick photo here and there would be a good idea.
I’d love to inspire others to do the same. That day when your child is in a calm zone, playing and/ or their own make belief world, go up and take a few pictures. Some days on when they just look gorgeous get them into good light and take some more pictures. Just 3-4 each time, When you look at the pictures later choose the best one. Well I usually just choose one, edit one:) I never take more than 5 minutes.
One definitely get more out of the little ones if there is as little distractions as possible. Today my 2 year old were dressed in this really lovely dress, I immediately realised I have a headband that will go perfectly with the dress. Nothing was planned but I just immediately knew it would look great I even thought what background and prop would be perfect. Since the kids are so used to me asking for one photo every now and then they are pretty good about it. Mom dont keep them long, I always show them on the LCD and they get to do what they’d like. My eldest have even come up to me and asked for another picture. Taking video’s have also become a pastime of us, with my eldest composing her own songs etc.
Bonding time, fun, unbelievable sentiment when looking back on it later, rolled into a record of your little ones as they grow up, what more can one ask for. I love love love being able to do this.
So what am I rambling about? I felt such love and wonder today again that I had to share it and encourage everyone to have a look out for those opportunities to take pictures. Of course I will do my yearly family session as well since I also want to be on some pictures, not a good thing to always be just behind the scenes. I’ll also capture longer sessions with each as they reach a specific milestone, but in the mean time I am always on the lookout to have one image here, one image there.
If I wasn’t prepared I might have missed this one:

I was alone with her, I had a little conversation and we sang a song. Here is a short video, please excuse my absolutely terrible singing, but if you ever have a session with me with little ones, it might be good that you are prepared because I always end up singing:) Listen how quiet it is, how calm the setting is. And the result is a fun time, with a beautiful image. I have some images too where she is sitting, and even standing on top of the column, yet the photo above is the one that spoke to me… (video not great quality, I didn’t bring in any lighting and I am still only at “point and shoot” stage when it comes to video:))
I’m so pretty, oh so pretty… from Brunilda Monnig Roode on Vimeo.
A calm and enjoyable photo session with my own little girl. It took all of 10 minutes, singing show included. The lighting was natural light and the photo and video both was taken with my canon 5D II and 50mm lens.

Wow is all I can say. This little girl and her family got a session give away at the Abu Dhabi Women Christmas party last year. Even though little miss M were a bit tired and a very active little girl, the images are amazing. She has such a classic beauty, I just adore each and every picture.
Here is one that takes my breath away.

And here is the video sneak peek
Your proofs have been ordered, I will let you know as soon as they are ready.

The winner of the Abu Dhabi Women board‘s annual Christmas party prize of a session with me came to visit today. We have discussed this session for a long time and were all so excited. I think she is so adorable and gorgeous. A little spitfire with a mind of her own but that’s a good thing, I got some exercise:) Here is just one image as super short sneak peek. The rest of the edits will follow next week in a video slideshow.

Last night I had the pleasure to meet a lovely local family in their home. It was another evening session and some clever lighting was needed. We thought we didnt get a lot since the children was a little bit excited but it was a pleasant surprise when I downloaded the pictures last night. We will definitely have another session in about 6 months so try again for the family shot we wanted.
Last night the children were not interested in that:) That is the nature of children photography though and at certain ages its just more difficult to get group shots. I get very very few of my two together as Erika as as that stage. When you are two and there is so much new things in the world to see and explore, you’re not that interested to sit right beside your sister or brother:) I love this lively stage though so I am not complaining, many more years to get the group shots, just important to record them at the different stages, as it goes by much much too fast!
This one is my ultimate favorite of the session. She looks absolutely angelic with the purple fabric and the beads.

Another favorite is the awe of big sister with her smallest sister. Three sisters, how blessed they will be to have such close friends later on.

Let’s not forget some of the boys. This is big brother with another family relative. I love the absolute laughter on the young boys face.

This is the middle sister with the tiger. There were many tigers, the biggest one was well over six feet if I could give a quick guess:)

Another of baby girl. She did not want to be left on her own for a minute. She wanted to be held, on Mommy’s lap or in anyone’s arms the whole time. Oh how soon we forget those first few weeks when all they want is Mommy’s bodyheat. We just worked around that.

Last one is another favorite (I can have several favorites can’t I?). Pure sisterly love.

Hope you enjoyed the sneak peek. It was lovely to meet everyone.

Yesterday afternoon I was so lucky to meet another friendly little girl. She just as friendly and relaxed as her parents. Her favorite of the session was of course the rose petals…
The first photo for the sneak peek has to be one of her sitting in the petals in the basket.

I tried to mix it up a little and show not only colour but different conversions as well. Here is a chocolate one of the princess. The chocolate really brings out the subtle contrasts in this picture making it something special.

On the chair. If it wasn’t for the petals and the basket, the chair would have been her favorite. She loved climbing on and turning sideways, anything to just have fun.

And another in colour

Daddy had the wonderful idea to throw the petals all over her. She really loved that. Here she is truely enjoying it.

Last one is one with Mommy. I hope Dad forgives me for not placing one of him (well he is in the background though:-)

I met a lovely little girl and her parents today. When they got here Mom told me she is more of a thinker than a smiler and that proved to be true, yet I just loved her inquisitiveness. She reminded me a lot about Erika as Erika also always appear serious (especially on photos), yet is a very happy girl non the less. Thanks so much for coming your friendly nature is contagious! I also loved hearing how close Norwegian is to Afrikaans.
First the photo that gave this post its name. A tisket a tasket a little girl in a basket.

Now for the family picture. The love and friendliness so clearly visible they are beaming:)
One with her teddy bear.

Climbing all over the stair stepper. I got it out so I could climb on and take a picture from above but the minute she saw it she was all over it. Climbing up and down. So in the end I just took pics of her.

Ooo the pretty lights. The kiddies seem to be fascinated, never scared, but definitely fascinated. I recently took some school photos and I had the whole class (in the smaller classes) looking at the lights and not me. I had to bribe them with promising to make the lights flash if they give me one photo where everyone looks at me:)
This little beauty loved seeing the baby on the camera also. At the end of the session she was so used to me in fact she would come up to me to show me all her toys etc. Difficult to take pics then but I just loved that she was so comfortable.

And lastly for the sneak peek is “when you’re happy and you know it”. A toddler session means singing, a good thing I know ALL the songs, and love singing them even if I am completely off tune:-)

On Saturday afternoon I visited a lovely family at their home only down the road from my own. Big sister was at first a bit unsure about the whole thing but very soon relaxed and we had great fun. Little brother was all smiles right from the start. Also quite fitting we got a nice Irish photo of the two men in the household, in time for St Patrick’s day next month.
Here is your sneak peek, enjoy.
First one of baby boy with Mom and Dad. I just love this one, it looks so relaxed and almost as if he is laughing so hard that he is hiding his laugh behind his hand.

Laughter was the name of the game, and here big sister is being swung around, and having great fun with it.

One for St Patrick’s day

One of the two cuties together.

Handsome little brother.

And last but not least a fun and beautiful one of the princess of the house.

On Friday afternoon we headed to Corniche park. It was 3h30pm and I knew the timing would be nice, not yet cold, lovely weather. Yet boy o boy I havent been in a public park on a Friday in some time. I was shocked and amazed how many people were around. I loved the atmosphere and the wonderfully “holiday” cheer around us.
It was so much fun scouting around for little pockets of places we could make our own for the shoot. Turely loved every minute of it. The little one was so friendly and always on the run. The slide was the most fun!
Here is your sneak peek, hope you enjoy.
Look how blessed is this little boy to have such attentive grandparents! A visit from the grandparents while being expat here is always a very special time.

One with Mommy. This was actually the very last photo taken. We tried the whole afternoon for a nice one with mom but he was just too fast for us. But in the end, we got it! I haven’t edited away the distractions in this one yet, will do so for your gallery.

Some fun ones with Daddy. And may I just say, this Dad has got to be one of the most energetic Dad’s I’ve seen. Running, swinging his boy, etc The list is just too long.

And one high in the air!

I wanted to play a little and processed the next two with a little bit of drama. I have them as regular edits too for your gallery. I thought they made interesting portraits.
First in the sand. Oblivious to 4 adults trying to interact with him. His truck and sand is all his little world consisted of at that moment.

And completely in his element on the tunnel slide. He went down, then up again, then down again, then up again. Loved it!

Today a little princess came to visit the studio. She first enjoyed the playroom and then we headed upstairs. Good sport at first and then she decided she has had enough. Don’t worry you can come again and play to hearts content.
My favorites are where she jumps on mommy’s tummy and looks to see if she can spot the fairies in the camera.
Enjoy your sneak peek. I will be in contact soon to hand over the gallery.
Here is a fun one, one of the first where she was playing peek a boo. She soon let out some smiles. I like this one because mommy is so beautiful and you can also see the love of this family.

Lovely family photos

Having fun sitting in the chair. I believe its the jack in the box entertaining her here:)

Some more Jack in a box fun!

My favorite of your sneak peek’s. Here she is searching for the fairy in the camera.

We had a quick mini session this afternoon. Little N was just looking at me with that gorgeous big brown eyes. She loosened up a bit while Mom and Grandma sang to her. Round and Round she danced, so demurely. Gracious and slowly.
I love this one where her big brown inquisitive and curious eyes, just want to draw you in.

And one where she is dancing a little bit. Cutie pie!

Today I had the good fortune to meet and take pictures of a lovely family. I have been looking forward to this for some time, as the poor beauties were sick the previous time we had planned to do the shoot. Today they were all better, but unfortunately a little shy for a camera. The fairies clapped hands and we sang. It worked a little and I got some really beautiful ones in between.
Its not always necessary for a smile to have a beautiful picture and I am sure this sneak peek will show that. The two little miss K’s have such beautiful and perfect skin it was a pleasure to edit these pictures.
I hope you enjoy your sneak peek.
Hmm, I wonder what is that thing? – She was a little unsure of the camera at first.

More fun if I get to sit by Mommy.

Outside we tried to get them together but unfortunately that didn’t work so well. I have the same with my own daughters. Not to worry, when they are older there will be lots of times to get them smiling together. For now if they are happy that’s the most important. I just love the expression on littlest Ms K’s face, while big sis looks so serene.

And lastly for your sneak peek, who can resist such a happy girl when she is with Daddy.

I almost forgot that I edited this one too. I would have liked to know what story she is telling Mommy.

I’m posting now since tomorrow will be full day. An ordering session in the morning, Bianca’s ballet in the afternoon and in between all that its Erika’s first birthday. We have already had the party but she still needs extra special attention.
Where has the year gone? How is it possible that my little girl is already one? She’s my last baby so its bittersweet. She’s walking comfortably now, and she is just so cute and always friendly its truely been a blessing to have her in our lives.
The funniest thing she does at the moment is going crazy when Teletubbies comes on the video. We have only introduced her to them during the long week end and already she goes crazy when the 4 chubby tubbies say “E-o”. Her favorite is the baby sun. Its a good thing I saved al 4 the stuffed toy tubbies from Bianca, as they will surely become her best friends.
Here is a little collage/storyboard I made of her party. (for fellow photogs – most of these were taken at ISO 5000! The 5D II surely handles noise so well)

Basically what we did today at Mall of the Emirates is run after Eli-Ann with the camera as fast as we can. Can we call it a session? I don’t know? Let’s call it a mini session, maybe that’s closer to the truth, or maybe I’ll create a section on my website called chaos or life happens or something like that for sessions like these. They are super fun, but boy, certainly not all planned and portrait like.
I particularly liked the part where she went into the display area and modeled with the manikins or where she ran around like a crazy person running and laughing. She reminded me so much of Bianca at that age. She is exactly the same height as Bianca at that age and she even have roughly the same birthday (just 2 years apart) so when I look at her she steals my heart.

It was such a pleasure to spend some time with Kate and Kristie and I hope to do so soon again. Here are just two pictures as sneak peek for you. I realised today I might lose the rest of my weight sooner as its such a fun way to chase after the youngsters. She sure was a lively little thing. And so friendly.
Twinkle Twinkle, little star.. and Baa, baa, black sheep. wonder why that keeps playing in my head. And Laa laa has a fond place in my heart now too.
Love you Kate.
