This week end was very eventful with 3 sessions in one day. First a private on location in-door session with dramatic lighting effects, theme based on Elizabeth Taylor, then a mini maternity session and lastly a family session with my dearest friend and her family. I was running between sessions and absolutely loving the adrenaline. Such a variety in one day – I can’t belief how blessed I am.

We’ve been planning this family session since winter, actually since last year October and even though we are such close friends one thing led to another and we just never could manage to do the session sooner. At last we got to it, and its amazing what we came away with. I am currently still busy with other edits so,  I’ve only been able to do 3 sneak peek edits so far. I was hoping  for an outdoor session to play with editing. Gorgeous sunset and golden colours. I love late afternoon since I am a bit of a late starter and struggling to get up at 6h30 for shoots (which one would have to do these days if you want outdoor in the morning). Of course I am willing to set an alarm if anyone ever wanted to get up so early.

For this session we started after 6pm and had about an hour to get what we wanted before it was too dark. I’ll build on this session with some studio shots as well, so watch this space, later this month I’ll showcase the whole set of pictures. outdoor and indoor. For now, her is 3 sneaks.

Beautiful E, can’t belief how big she is getting.

Then the family – almost sunset (it was a little lighter out than the image looks, I did do a little creative editing.)

What a lovely pregnancy session we had the other day. This mommy was lucky enough to get a mini session for a stork tea present. I loved how well we worked together. We knew we wanted to get the most out of the 8 or so images I usually edit for a mini session. Since mini sessions dont allow time for clothing changes we even planned for that and she layered clothing, so easy to remove a piece and have a new look. Chip chop we had 8 unique photos (in fact I ended up doing 10). Thanks again for coming.

Here is just a few as sneak peek. There is one I loaded on Facebook for you to share to your profiles.

I had to share another storyboard of the sweetest one year old that visited a while ago. Below the video sneak peek of only some of the images also follows.

Video Sneak Peek – Sweet little girl from Brunilda Monnig Roode on Vimeo.

A little while ago we had a truly sweet little girl in studio for her one year session. A mover already and she was not quite one year then.

Little babies are the rulers in any household and in my work they are the boss also. Even though we thought we’d have their session today, they decided they’d prefer next week:) I wanted to at least do a few photos as mini sneak peek. Here is a little storyboard.

Every month I try to post a sample of what to wear. A wonderful lady all the way in USA compiles these and as soon as she sends my monthly installment I post them. I love this month’s choices because it will work with our weather. I recommend studio sessions starting from now as it really is very hot out there. (except if you particularly love wet hair from the heat). To see previous month’s suggestions search “what to wear” or head to facebook page where I placed them all in one album.

I started out thinking I’d do a one image sneak peek and then decided rather than do a mini sneak and a video sneak later I will just go ahead and do a collage. I will share a video sneak peek once the session has been finalised. I might give in and share more of the cake smash as they were too cute not to share.

I loved the family as they knew form the start our time is short and we went all out with it. One year olds have almost the least amount of time to play with. But boy we did a good job of it, happy smiles so we got some cute ones, provided we had her on a chair though. This is one little girl who at 11.5 months actually are walking around as if she’s been doing it for ages:) A true explorer.

I love the expressions and the looks we got, here is a collage of 9.

Your proof book is on its way to you, all the way in the UK, and by this time you’ve seen the gallery. I wanted to share one image I felt symbolised the whole session and also wanted to share the video.

Here is a video slideshow sneak of some of the images to share with friends. Enjoy your pictures!

It’s been a bit quiet on the blog, but it’s certainly not because I am not busy, just the opposite. I am trying my best to work through a ton of edits, designs, order preparation and have a few sessions also waiting for proofs. I work down the to do list one at a time and we are getting there, so bear with us.

More fun things that have been keeping us busy is Mother’s day and Bianca’s birthday. For mother’s day we went to her school and she gave me a mani and pedi cure. She loves colours and therefore chose three different colours to paint my nails with. The whole week last week she kept asking what my favourtie colour was and of course I answered blue. I love blue, even got married in blue. But how was I to know she asked because she plans to paint my nails with it? Luckily I did get to choose whether I want the blue on my hands or toe nails. So I am now sporting some really shockingly blue toenails! For the hands she decided to paint one hand pink and the other purple. It looks weird, but this mommy is proudly walking around in her manicured and pedicured state. I promised for 6 days since she is 6!

Yesterday we had another fun event, she turned 6. We had so much fun. She was terribly sick the day before and turned out its her ears so we tried as best we could to keep her ears out the water. Whether it worked we will know later but for now she sure had fun. She says 6 is her very best favourite number (at least for now). As we walked back to the car she asked “Mommy how many days until my next birthday?” I just laughed. Kids give us so much fun and laughter, how can one do anything but just adore them!

Here is the birthday girl with the evidence of a chocolate mousse cake that definitely did not survive the party.

I can’t believe it’s almost mother’s day again. Somewhere in March there is a mother’s day but I honestly never know when that is. I grew up with the second Sunday in May being mother’s day. I remember each year if I wondered when its mother’s day it was easy, when it’s Grandma’s birthday (early May) then it’s going to be mother’s day and the month thereafter when it’s GrandPa’s birthday (early June) again on the second Sunday it’s father’s day.

Sadly Ouma and Oupa is no longer with us, but I still remember it that way. About 6 years ago I remember wishing my first little one will be on time so I can have my very first mother’s day with a brand new baby. It wasn’t a strange request, after all she was due 28 April already! But she stayed and stayed and that year the Sunday was the 8th too, I remember thinking oh well I will have to wait another year to celebrate mother’s day for myself. As Bianca arrived 10 – 12 days late:)

So this year I have nostalgia too as in 2005, the days were exactly the same. Sunday the 8th is once again Mother’s day. This time I am a mommy, twice over! I have a weird and wonderful feeling as Bianca was born on a Tuesday and this year it will be a Tuesday again.

I’d love to hear everyone’s mother’s day stories, comment here or mail, if you’d like to share.

I wanted to wish a special mother’s day to everyone. I tried to make a full collage for all the children I photographed this year, but there were just too many, in the end I selected all the ones that weren’t too far archived, still so many. Thank you so much for sharing a wonderful year with me, for being such fun and friendly children to your mommies.

I  hope all the gorgeous mommies I met this past year get spoiled lots. Not necessarily with things but with the most important kisses and hugs!

And to each and every other mommy out there I wish tomorrow will be a wonderful day  indeed.

Hi there everyone. The blog has been quiet, because I have not been quiet, in fact quite busy. Within the next few days there will be video sneak peeks of a mother and daughter and two families. For now I am trying my level best to catch up with older orders as well. I received a multitude at the same time when we went over to new pricing and procedures so the to do list is worked down one thing at a time.

I realised its been some time since I shared some general ramblings and thought its about time. I always have, but specifically the last few weeks I have really tried to keep a lookout for times to take pictures of my own two darlings. One day when I have time maybe over my really long vacation in July/August I would love to be able to sort through my whole arsenal of pictures of them and make a massive video slideshow but to be able to do that I have to make sure every month of their live’s are in fact recorded. There has been too many months where I didn’t even take one image of them and I vow that will not be the case forward.

Since I have really started to love studio work more and more and also because I am a great big sissie and dont like to be outside when its too outragiously hot, and my girls would rather be playing in the times its not too outrageously hot, I have just tried to keep an eye out for times where a quick photo here and there would be a good idea.

I’d love to inspire others to do the same. That day when your child is in a calm zone, playing and/ or their own make belief world, go up and take a few pictures. Some days on when they just look gorgeous get them into good light and take some more pictures. Just 3-4 each time, When you look at the pictures later choose the best one. Well I usually just choose one, edit one:) I never take more than 5 minutes.

One definitely get more out of the little ones if there is as little distractions as possible. Today my 2 year old were dressed in this really lovely dress, I immediately realised I have a headband that will go perfectly with the dress. Nothing was planned but I just immediately knew it would look great I even thought what background and prop would be perfect. Since the kids are so used to me asking for one photo every now and then they are pretty good about it. Mom dont keep them long, I always show them on the LCD and they get to do what they’d like. My eldest have even come up to me and asked for another picture. Taking video’s have also become a pastime of us, with my eldest composing her own songs etc.

Bonding time, fun, unbelievable sentiment when looking back on it later, rolled into a record of your little ones as they grow up, what more can one ask for. I love love love being able to do this.

So what am I rambling about? I felt such love and wonder today again that I had to share it and encourage everyone to have a look out for those opportunities to take pictures. Of course I will do my yearly family session as well since I also want to be on some pictures, not a good thing to always be just behind the scenes. I’ll also capture longer sessions with each as they reach a specific milestone, but in the mean time I am always on the lookout to have one image here, one image there.

If I wasn’t prepared I might have missed this one:

I was alone with her, I had a little conversation and we sang a song. Here is a short video, please excuse my absolutely terrible singing, but if you ever have a session with me with little ones, it might be good that you are prepared because I always end up singing:) Listen how quiet it is, how calm the setting is. And the result is a fun time, with a beautiful image. I have some images too where she is sitting, and even standing on top of the column, yet the photo above is the one that spoke to me… (video not great quality, I didn’t bring in any lighting and I am still only at “point and shoot” stage when it comes to video:))

I’m so pretty, oh so pretty… from Brunilda Monnig Roode on Vimeo.

A calm and enjoyable photo session with my own little girl. It took all of 10 minutes, singing show included. The lighting was natural light and the photo and video both was taken with my canon 5D II and 50mm lens.
