Every year hundreds of photographers endeavour to “give back” in the way they best know how. By giving their photography services to someone that may not be able to afford it, have not even thought of it before.
Last year I was out of the country during December and thought it would be too difficult to arrange something, but this year I am here and would love to give too. And all of you get to help me choose who to give to, by nominating someone you feel is deserving.
If you know of someone that have fallen on hard times, someone that has gone through a tragedy, someone dealing with such hardships be it difficult situations, difficult emotions then nominate them. It might be someone that is struggling financially, or it might be someone that has to rethink their whole family unit after the death of a parent, or it might even be someoene struggling to keep their family and fincances together because they might be working more than one job. Whatever it is, let me know.
If you know someone that can’t afford my custom portrait photography, but would appreciate it as a present this holiday season, then please participate.
I know everyone knows someone like this. Please send me information about your nominee. I will need to know why you feel they qualify, what this person means to you, are you related? I would love to share some goodies with them. The one family/ person chosen will receive a free portrait session, a jumbo print of every photo, a slideshow on DVD of their session to watch anytime they wish, and either an 8×8 session book or an 11×14 canvas. Value of the gift at least Dhs 2700.
The person that nominated the winner will be receiving a Dhs 500 gift certificate to use as they see fit. Keep it to use against future sessions, purchase products from previous sessions, or even gift it to someone that might be able to use it. (it may not be sold and is not exchangeable for cash in any way)
So, let’s start. Here are the rules:
- Do NOT nominate yourself, or a direct family member.
- The nominated party may not have had a custom photography session within the last year and must genuinely not be able to afford it for themselves right now. If they just had a ski holiday in a luxurious resort then they are probably not the right candidates.
- The nominee must be a resident within Abu Dhabi Emirate. The session will take place within Abu Dhabi city, close surrounds, so if they are further out they have to be able to get to Abu Dhabi on there own accord. This would mostly not be possible for everyone so I would ask you, that if you nominate someone further out, to take it upon yourself to bring them to the Abu Dhabi city.
- It might be a good idea to clear it with the relevant party that a selection of their pictures will be shared on the blog. I will never mention names or surnames on my blog. How much or how little of their story becomes public will be their decision, I will not publish anything about their stories without their knowledge or permission. I will be getting a private group of women photographers to help me with my decision and will be sharing the stories with them however (again never revealing names).
- Send me both their and your contact details, email and phone contacts. Tell me their full story. You can present it any way you feel, electronically, be it a letter, video, pictures added or whatever your heart feels.
- Comment on this post that you have sent a message (please I ask that no-one share any personal details, personal stories, names or surnames in the comments on the blog) and then send a message to my mail address entitled “GIA – 2011″. brunilda@brunilda.me
- Latest date for nominations is 31 December 2010. Only nominations sent via mail will be included in the decision.
- I will then choose the 5 most deserving (in my eyes) stories and ask a private group of professional women photographers to help me decide the outcome. The winner will be anounced 8 January 2011.
- The family should be able to make use of the session between March 2011 and December 2011.
Can’t wait to hear about your nominations, let’s start giving…

Forgive me for showing a little more than usual in the slideshow, I love this family so much. My best friends from back when I lived in Dubai and still incredibly special to me. Miss K will always hold a place in my heart because she is Bianca’s “friend-twin” born on the same day, same hospital few doors apart. She is older because my Bianca took her time:)
We headed out to a new park in Al Barsha, Dubai. I have become such a scaredy cat about getting lost in Dubai but luckily Dad were the shaufeur and I just tagged along. When I saw the grasses I knew we would go on an expidition into them. My favorite photo ever were taking in those grasses!
Before I even show the slideshow I have to show the picture I am talking about. I just love it.

This one with mom is super special too. I somehow feel specifially drawn to the pictures of K where she is in her own world, looking away or as if into the future.
Lovely one of her modeling for me by the palm tree. I loved that she would decide she is a princess then I get these sweet smiles, in a blink she would tell me she is a monkey and then I’d get the quirky pics and then here is her model pose:)

Quirky K and a family pic I adore because it just shows so much love and fun between them. (B check out my photoshop here, can you spot it?)
Now for all the rest of the sneak peek in the slideshow. For blog readers, follow this link: From Princess to Monkey - Loved seeing you all again and can’t wait for out visit with the girls and the Grandma’s and Grand dad!

I am so happy to share this sneak peek today. On Tuesday little J, his bigger brother and his mommy came to visit the studio. It was his birthday so apart from taking some regular photos we also had a cake smash, so fun! I’ve seen him grow up, this was his third photoshoot already! He is bigger but its amazing how much he still looks like that very first time I saw him.
His slideshow is a special one, specifically for the cakesmash. Blog readers, follow this link: J’s cakesmash slideshow
Here is some photo’s for your sneak peek. Hello gorgeous boy.

A black and white conversion, think there is a tiny bit of chocolate in there. when I see this pic I’m thinking: Rocker boy saying ‘what’s up!’

The boys together, laughing at mommy and her fabulous songs.

A cute one of big brother

And lastly how the day ended, yumm!

Little miss L is already 7 months, wow, can’t believe how fast it has gone. To see her newborn session click here.
With her newborn session she wasnt so happy, this time however she made up for it. So sparkly, so friendly. She loved it when mommy sang to her and tried her darndest to sing as well. So cute. She honestly needed a huge cuteness alert when I was going through the photos, whenever my girls would came close to the computer they just stood there and stare. Bianca’s review: “that baby looks awesome Mommy!”
Here is your slideshow – blog readers follow this link: Christmas time is almost here - if you are this adorable at 7 months imagine 2 years, you are going to turn your Mommy and Daddy around your little finger little girl.
And here is some of the sneak peek. Isn’t these christmas pictures just the most adorable!

Just because Santa is close doesn’t mean we must forget the Easter Bunny:)

and Mini Mouse came out to play too.

Another family, same location as the previous post, but in the morning and a bit too late in the morning so the bright sun got to us, we’ll definitely be doing a few extra images one afternoon:)
I loved this family, the boys were so energetic, I confess I completely could not keep up. Maybe I should have had sons, maybe all the running would have made me be much more fit:) I adore that the different boys have each their own personality.
Here is your slideshow – blog readers follow this link: Boys, boys, boys - just be yourself, because you each have such a fabulous personality, I enjoyed our time together and seeing you interact with each other.
And here is some of the sneak peek. First one is the whole family

Three little boys all piled on top of each other

I am quite behind in posting blog sneak peeks. Tonight quite a few should be going up. Definitely 2, maybe as much as 4:)
This family came dressed in teal and blues. Love it! My favorite colour is blue and all things blue, I was even married in royal blue! Their session were in the afternoon and the suns golden hues really worked with the blue of the water, blue of their clothes. As usual I got really dity, sand and water and at one stage I remember I was even in the water:)
5 Lovely people – thanks so much for letting me share this time with you. Hope you enjoy your sneak peek.
First let me share a slideshow of each one I edited. For blog readers, here is the link: Teal slideshow
And now for a few of the sneak peek. The first one I love because of all the teal and blue colours the natural way in which the water just reflected different colours were gorgeous. The two models of course makes the photo of course even more beautiful.

The boy

The middle sister

The little sister

And the whole family

Have to end the sneakpeek with some love between Mommie and the girls.

I couldn’t wait to edit the sneak peek for this session as I knew it was going to be spectacular. 4 Lovely siblings each fabulously pretty/ handsome in their own way. I love that each have a particular look and personality and I sincerely hope we captured it!
The location we chose because it has tremendous versatility but unfortunately no one was prepared for the crowds that come with a holiday:) We took pictures in little pockets of space in between other families:) It was fun though. As usual we sat on sand, grass and the like and pretty soon my reflector was no longer a reflector but rather a handy seat. There are so many that will be edited and your sneak peek is a bit larger too. I felt I couldnt put all the images on the blog post as it would be way too long so I prepared a slideshow of them all (remember this is just the sneak peek).
And here are some of the beautiful ones in more spotlight, first the whole family:

The eldest sister,

The second eldest

Little sister

and lastly but certainly not least is brother. He gets two because he was in the minority on the day:)

Wow, what a pleasure it was to meet little S and her family yesterday afternoon. She was such a friendly little girl, I loved every minute with her. I was greeted with the biggest smile, shown her barbie and her kitty. We haven’t even begun with the photos when I was led by hand to come look at her lovely toybox. We took photos in the house then headed out, and inside the toybox followed us. So adorable.
She thought the crazy lady was very funny when I got really dirty while taking pics of her outside. That comes with taking pictures of little people when you aren’t little (not even close!). I always go down on my knees, shuffle around on the ground, even lie down and I have no problem with grass, sand, ground just about anything. As a result this lady gets dirty and the children think its very funny!
Here is a few for a sneak peek, one of the firsts, maybe still getting used to the camera. I love the sweet contemplative look.

Isn’t this one gorgeous!

Talking with mom and dad. I think she was singing an arabic song here, but can’t remember any of it. I just have to learn arabic, been wanting to for so long but where to find the time and someone to teach in times that would suit? oh well, maybe it will be my new year’s resolution.

We headed out and I adore the ones one the grass, the white dress was a perfect choice.

I put this flower in her hair and she gave me a pink one for my hair. When I got home my eldest daughter said “Mommy you look like a little old lady” Haha!

Thanks for letting me spend some time with you and for putting up with the crazy places where I suggested we take photos:)

This couple have some wonderful friends that’s for sure. They received a session as a gift to celebrate their gorgeous little baby boy. And what a little mister charming he is! He was dressed in the most adorable little outfit that completely fit with being a mister charming!
The sneak peek is a bit small for now, hope you enjoy.
Towards the end of the session he gave in and slept for a little (untill the crazy lady tried putting him on his stomach and the adults started laughing. But even when he was woekn up he still didnt object he just calmly looked around and sleepily wondered what was going on. So super sweet. This one I had to show first even if it was taken towards the end of the session.

Awake he was fine with being on his stomach. So strong for only being a month!

Mr cutie in a basket!

I met up with a beautiful family with 4 daughters. 5 Women in the household and Dad didn’t even seem like he was overpowered. 4 Little girls ranging from 1 to 7 years and each as sweet. It was such a pleasure to work with you.
We had the session at a park and although we started at 4pm the sun already had the golden glow of a sun desperate for sleep:) Amazing how fast the seasons are changing these days, how fast the sun is setting. I still find it strange, even after more than 6 years in the country, that it is “winter” and the early sunsets shows it, but the temperatures can still get to 30C during the day. Lovely.
Here are a few from the session, first the whole family.

A spectacular one of the eldest. Everyone know by now I love the chocolate conversions, and this one I particularly like.

Littlest sister was really good even though she was in her own world at times. So cute, she reminded me a lot of Erika. Here is two pics of her.

Second oldest and what a lovely smile.

Isn’t she cute! Love the grasses

We shouldn’t forget Mom and Dad

And lastly a stunning black and white of the three oldest girls.

We did a little photowalk today. I am usually not into photographing anything that aren’t people:) I just get bored with it super super quickly. I can appreciate those images, in fact practically drool at some gorgeous images of dunes, of old antique items etc, but when I grab the camera and think I am going to also document the world and not just people, I struggle to keep my focus. I was interested to play a little though so took two different sets of images, several in HDR (those will follow later) and I also took some photos to make composit images of Abu Dhabi. I used photomerge to merge all the images and then in photoshop cleaned it all up. Certainly not perfect but a super fun project.
If you have done something likewise, please share your images on our facebook page, I’m sure others would love to see.

Yesterday a beautiful mom to be came to visit the studio for a mini session. With mini sessions I keep the edited images to about 10 and therefore I won’t be sharing a lot here. One photo we immediately liked. To be me it was so striking and unique and I loved it. I couldnt wait to edit it to be able to show it.
What do you think? Doesn’t the streaks of light just show off her belly’s curves all the more? Striking
